Fabergé Guilloché Enamel and Silver Case

Parcel-Gilt Silver, Guilloché Enamel and Leather Cigarette Case
Fabergé
Produced 1908-1917

This Fabergé cigarette case exemplifies the elegance and precision for which the House of Fabergé is renowned. The silver surface is adorned with lilac guilloché enamel over a radiant sunburst ground, its luminous color enhanced by delicate engine-turned patterning beneath. Bearing the workmaster’s mark of Feodor Afanassiev, the case is further distinguished by its original brown leather outer covering.

Founded in 1842 in St. Petersburg, the House of Fabergé rose under Peter Carl Fabergé to become the foremost luxury firm of Imperial Russia, serving the Romanov family and an elite clientele. The workmaster Feodor Afanassiev, a highly skilled goldsmith, was especially celebrated for his small silver-gilt and guilloché enamel objects of vertu, such as the present example. He contributed to some of the house’s most finely executed works. Surviving Fabergé pieces from this period, particularly those retaining original elements such as the partial leather case, are increasingly rare and highly sought after.

Marked Fabergé, with the workmaster’s mark of Feodor Afanassiev, St. Petersburg, 1908–1917, and stamped 88 zolotniks
