French Fluorspar and Ormolu Clock Garniture

This beautiful French clock garniture, styled in the Louis XV taste, is a charming work of artistry and craftsmanship. Crafted of richly veined and brightly-hued fluorspar mounted with ornately cast ormolu bronze, this garniture celebrates classical ideals and Rococo luxury. The clock and candelabra all feature magnificent doré bronze putti and floral garlands which perfectly accent the fluorspar, displaying its violet and jade-like tones.

Created to be displayed atop the fireplace mantel, clock garnitures first appeared in 18th-century France. Fluorspar, a fluorescent and highly decorative mineral, was first mined and used as ornament by the Romans and is a rare decoration for a clock garniture set.
