Nicole Frères cylinder music boxes are considered among the finest ever made, and this example is no exception. Known as a “triple signed” box, the Nicole Frères mark is found on the song card, mechanism, and comb. Encased in finely inlaid rosewood, the 8-air mechanism features a cylinder with very close-set teeth, an advancement which greatly increases the quality and complexity of the music. The set of six bells charmingly held aloft by a gymnast, drum, and castanets contribute a layer of depth and richness for which Nicole Frères is celebrated.
