Called the Roc Centre variation, this magical scene is populated by maroon imps crossing a bridge with brown elves watching on, while a green Roc bird flies above the imps between the violet sky and deep sapphire water. Fairyland Lustre is one of the most valuable and collectible types of Wedgwood porcelain. From the creative mind of visionary designer Daisy Makeig-Jones, it was a crowning achievement for Wedgwood in the early 20th century. The exceptional Imps on a Bridge and Treehouse was one of the last five patterns of Fairyland Lustre still available in 1940, one year before the last remaining stock was sold as production had largely ceased around 1931. The imps themselves were inspired by the Kewpies, invented by American poet-artist Rose O'Neill.
