White and Pink Glass Swan Perfume Bottle by Thomas Webb & Sons

White and Pink Glass Swan Perfume Bottle
Thomas Webb & Sons
Cap hallmarked London, 1884

This rare Victorian perfume bottle is formed as a swan and executed in softly shaded white-over-pink glass by Thomas Webb & Sons, one of the leading English glasshouses of the nineteenth century. The elongated neck and gently modeled body demonstrate a refined command of form, while subtle color gradation enhances its sculptural presence. The bottle retains its silver-mounted stopper, finely engraved with foliate motifs that contrast crisply with the delicacy of the glass.

Swan-form perfume bottles gained popularity in the late nineteenth century, reflecting Victorian interest in naturalistic motifs and technical refinement. Its silver cap is marked with London hallmarks for 1884 and the maker’s mark of Frederick Bradford McCrea, a silversmith closely associated with the Army & Navy Co-operative Society Ltd, which catered to British military officers and their families.
